Architecture

Internet of Things Connectivity Architecture
Internet of Things Connectivity Architecture
Blue App 21/04/2017 00:00:00

Connected devices is a more simplified term to describe the Internet of Things, connecting devices to the internet to gather data is the major component in IoT, the end goal is to build interconnected products, devices, and platforms for remote communication.

The critical aspects of an IoT model are the devices, the Local Network; which most often includes a gateway, to translates communication protocols to Internet Protocol, the internet itself and back-end services and data systems, pcs and mobile devices.

Devices: The device is the actual “thing” that is being connected to the internet, this can be a number of different products from residential, commercial to industrial devices.

More and more devices are being connected, Bluetooth is a big factor in the increase of connected devices, many manufacturers are adding Bluetooth to their products, it is an easy, reliable and proven short range communication protocol which already exists in billions of commercial devices. The production of Bluetooth industrial products is growing at an alarming rate, manufacturers realize that Bluetooth is not only the fastest route to an IoT solution but it is the prevailing standard for short range communication of devices.

Local Networks: This normally includes a gateway which translates the communication protocols used in commercial and industrial environments. In previous blogs we talked about some of the industrial communication protocols like BACnet, Modbus, 4 to 20mA and others that can now be connected to adapters to get that data to a gateway.

Gateways Benefits:

Immediate Response – Gateways provide an immediate response.

Easier Configuration of Smart Devices – No need to commission networks, gateways can be given a small amount of information and use this to create the configuration of the network.

Uninterrupted Internet – On-premises gateways creates a reliable backup so that internet access will not be interrupted.

Create Better User Interface – Without a gateway, all devices would need to present a reasonable interface for a user application. This would add complexity to each device and would make the user interface development far more difficult.

Back-end services
for both web and mobile applications is a way to link the apps to the back-end cloud storage and API’s, which provides features such as user management, push notifications and social networking services. By providing a consistent way to manage back-end data, it means that developers don’t have to reprogram their own service for every functionality of the app, which saves time and money.

To have a complete model for IoT applications, and understanding of the components that will make the apps run smoothly is very important, understanding the sensor devices, gateways and back-end services for the web and mobile applications is critical.

Vensi has been designing applications for the Internet of Things for some time and now we have an in-depth understanding of the Internet of Things and it’s architecture in many different use cases and applications.

Vensi is on the cutting edge with technology to create complex solutions for your project if you have a project coming up and need experts in IoT please contact us so we can help your team get started. For more details please contact us at blueapp.io/contact-us/ or mail us at hello@blueapp.io
